Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers
Clogging performances
Waterford, VA
Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers, a group of Appalachian clog dancers based out of Loudoun County, Virginia, is seeking performance opportunities for the 2005 calendar year. Our dance group was formed in 1997 under the instruction of Mary Smith, and has been growing ever since. The dancers range in age from 6 to 60. We dance to a variety of music ranging from gospel to pop/rock, so there's something to suit everyone. We have performed at many venues, which include various fairs, festivals, school events, private parties and the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympic Weight Lifting Trials (2004).
Clogging is a truly American dance form that began in the Appalachian Mountains and now enjoys widespread popularity throughout the United States and around the world. As the Appalachians were settled in the mid 1700s by the Irish, Scottish, English and Dutch-Germans, the folk dances of each area met and began to combine in an impromptu foot-tapping style, the beginning of clog dancing as we know it today. Accompanied by rousing fiddle and bluegrass music, clogging was a means of personal expression in a land of new found freedoms.
These are lively performances with anywhere from 10-25 performers. With regard to weekend performance preferences, we much prefer to dance on Saturdays, as many of our families are churchgoing people and find it harder to schedule performances on Sundays. Shows are usually 30-45 minutes in length for a fee of $250. (Travel expenses may be requested for events that require more than one hour of travel from the Northern Virginia area.) A promotional CD is available upon request.
