Southern Festivals News Service Make your plans now to attend the 11th annual Antique Alley District Street Festival on Saturday, October 12, 2002 in downtown Reidsville, NC! The event combines the ambiance of the downtown area's nine antique shops and three antique malls with the intrinsic excitement of a street festival. Fine antiques dealers and quality crafters sell from their booths while old-timey demonstrations pique the interest of many who have never seen examples of days gone-by. The aroma of homemade molasses freshly wrought from sugar cane fills the air, along with apple cider, peanuts roasting and popcorn popping while the grist mill grinds corn and apple butter simmers. Skilled craftsmen demonstrate the arts of spinning, pottery and chair caning and many antique engines "hit & miss" as they chug along in the shadow of the giant steam engine. For information on old-timey demonstrations and antique engines, call Charles Inman at (336) 349-8778.
The car show, sponsored by the EZ Street Cruisers Car Club, is a favorite of many festival-goers where nearly 300 antique, classic and street rod cars are entered in 42 classes. Registration begins at 8am; judging begins at 11am and trophies are presented at 4pm. For car show information, call 336-349-8911, 336-349-6908 or 336-656-4822. This is a festival for children, too! The Kiwanis Club sponsors free rides on a tractor-pulled "train". Face painting and children's rides are also available. Entertainment and lots of good food round out this memorable day! For festival information, call the Reidsville Downtown Corporation at 336-349-1045 or email us For lodging, call the Ramada Inn at 336-342-0341, Comfort Inn at 336-634-0111, Days Inn at 336-342-2800 or 336-349-8457, or the new Holiday Inn Express at 336-342-9103.
