15th Annual Caladium Festival

Bountiful fields of caladiums in radiant colors may be observed in and around Lake Placid, Florida, Caladium Capital of the World and home of the annual Caladium Festival.

The 15th Annual Caladium Festival will be held here on August 27-28. Ninety-nine percent of the world's caladiums are grown here, making this small rural community the Caladium Capital of the World. Row after row of caladiums in full growth in the fields, plus their extensive use in residential and commercial landscapes show the caladium at its full color.


Bus tours of the fields and homes are available all three days of the festival, with caladium farmers serving as tour guides. This has become a major drawing card at the festival.

A popular attraction is the Caladium Co-op, housed in a 10,000 square-foot building where a large selection of fine -hand-crafted items are offered for sale. During the Caladium Festival, artists and crafters can be seen at work.

Budding gardeners and Caladium enthusiasts will have a chance to purchase caladium pots and bulbs.

Entries in the Caladium Art Competition, including the winners, are on display at the Caladium Co-op. The competitions are open to the public. The caladium pioneers will be on hand at the caladium exhibit booth, and will gladly share the history of their industry with all who are interested. The Mural Society invites visitors to view the 34 murals on walls throughout the town of Lake Placid, in which the area's heritage is depicted. Mural tours are available during the festival Caladium Festival T-shirts and posters will be available at the Stuart Park information booth, where the artist will be on hand to sign the posters.

Budding gardeners and Caladium enthusiasts will have a chance to view displays of Caladium history and equipment as well as an exhibit of over 70 varieties of commercially grown caladiums. Lake Placid is located in Highlands County, Fla. on Hwy US 27.
